I would like to recommend this safaris tour company based out of Arusha. Last Feb my husband planned to climb Kilimanjaro with a group of friends who had chosen Mamuya. When we decided that I would join him after the climb for a safari, I started to research whether we would use Mamuya as the safari company for the next leg of our trip. There was very little information on Trip Advisor since this company was relatively new. Mamuya Safaris is a company owned by a husband and and wife, Elibarki and Daniela. We took the leap of faith with this new company and it turned out to be the best decision. Our trip with Mamuya was an extremely positive experience which I do not think it could be topped
As a started to plan the safaris I had MANY questions for Daniela which she answered quickly, politely, and with great detail. I was amazed with her organization and the quality of service she provided. She had many suggestions for the accommodations, the amount of time spent in each area, where would the animals be at that time of year etc. . . . I could tell from her emails that she was passionate to provide us with the best possible trip.
When we booked with Mamuya a deposit was required to secure the trip. Credit cards are not frequently used in Tanzania. It was rather different wiring money to a stranger on the other side of the world. Daniela quickly sent confirmation of the receipt of the deposit.
My husband left to climb Kilimanjaro a week before I left Canada and Daniela was kind enough to send an email stating the group arrived safely. She actually sent me pictures of their first day on the climb. Wow! I was impressed!
The climbers were very impressed with organization of the climb. It was actually the tour leader’s 391st climb up Kilimanjaro. You can’t beat that for experience! Their packs were checked prior to heading up the mountain to make certain they packed all the necessary items. Safety was very important. When my husband experienced altitude sickness a porter stayed back with him and they both slowly made it to the summit. Their trip was extremely successful due to the team who made it happen.
I arrived in Arusha before the group completed the climb. Daniela and Elibarki greeted me at the airport and I felt like I was meeting old friends. I must say they think of all the small details – they had cold water in the truck for my trip to the hotel. Thank you!
Since I had a day to tour Arusha before the group completed their climb Daniela had organized a trip to the Ng’iresi village. She had arranged it that I could cancel it if I was too tired due to jet lag. The village was certainly worth the trip. The village is supported by the tourists visiting and I did learn a lot from the tour. Daniela even joined me on the trip which was lovely to have her company.
The safari itself was a 10/10. Our driver, Eliab, made our safaris. We could not have asked for a better tour driver. He would make suggestions for the day but he was completely open to our desires. He was so knowledgeable about the animals, the culture, the land and the people. He also had a great sense of humor. We had a great time learning, sharing and laughing . . .Thank you Eliab!
He was also a mechanic in the past so we felt completely safe with his driving. His driving abilities were incredible. . . there were several time I thought we were going to be stuck but he impressed both of us! Be certain to request Eliab.
I have one suggestion for a couple who is travelling with a group. I would suggest to travel in the truck with just your spouse and meet the group at the camp at the end of the day. Travelling as a couple during the day gives you the flexibility to start and end the tour day when you want rather than when the group wants. It also gives you the opportunity to pass on a “kill” if you don’t want to listen to an animal being killed. It would be difficult for a group to all be of similar mind.
Our trip certainly was a trip of a lifetime and travelling Mamuya Safaris made that dream come true. I could not think of how this trip could have been improved. Even on the last day of the trip Daniela sent an email to our hotel to wish us a safe journey home. We came to Mamuya a client and left a friend. (Oh yes, Daniela makes beautiful jewelry which she sells – she will gladly show it to you if you ask) Happy trails.
