Situated on the North Eastern coast of Zanzibar, about 45 minutes from the airport, Azanzi is a luxury boutique beach hotel with 35 rooms – a mix of suites and stand-alone villas. The main hotel has multi-level viewing decks with swimming pool, bar and dining area overlooking the Indian Ocean. Azanzi was the first lodge in Africa to offer unique glass bottom sea kayaks, designed to magnify the marine life below. The excellent onsite dive centre is a good base from which to explore the nearby Mnemba Atoll.
NUMBER OF ROOMS & DESCRIPTION:
Standard rooms are a good size; double or twin with en suite showers only. Many luxury suites have adjoining rooms which can be set up as extra bedrooms for children staying with parents. Extra beds can also be added to the main room in the luxury suites. The villas are separated rooms with full en suite bathrooms and outdoor showers and deluxe villas feature private Jacuzzis. While it should be noted that consecutive suites are very close to each other. But a solid construction of the rooms prevent significant sound transfer between adjacent rooms.
RESTAURANTS & BAR:
The hotel has a highly recommended restaurant that offers a variety of cuisines. There are always fresh seafood and traditional Swahili dishes on offer as well as more typical European options. Breakfast consists of a substantial buffet and hot options are available to order for no extra charge. Lunch changes daily and dinner is also very varied; sometimes table service, sometimes buffet, sometimes BBQ. The variety and quality of food and drink is welcomed as there are not many places locally where one can go ‘out’ to eat.
OTHER FACILITIES & SERVICES:
diving, water-sports, fishing trips and excursions to Stone Town and the Spice Farms. The accommodation price also includes some snorkeling. The hotel has a spa which offers massage and relation therapies for an extra cost.
